Prince William and Kate Middleton – The Royal Wedding
By Barry Kinnerton

The wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton is fast approaching.
On April 29 2011 the happy couple will celebrate their vows at the ancient and magnificent Westminster Abbey in London. King Henry I and Princess Matilda of Scotland were the first Royals to get married there when they tied the knot on Nov. 11, 1100. And of course it was the venue for the heart-rending but ultimately inspiring funeral of Diana, Princess of Wales, in 1997.
There have been a lot of column inches written about this most modern of couples, and their romance seems to have captured the imagination of the entire world.
Since meeting as students at St Andrew’s University in Scotland, their love affair has had plenty of time to flourish and mature. There can be no doubt that both of them are absolutely in love and committed to a lifetime’s partnership together.
And unlike Prince William’s father, Prince Charles, who infamously replied to the question as to whether he was in love with Diana “Yes, whatever ‘in love’ means…”, you can be certain that his son and future daughter-in-law know exactly what love is.
Much has been made of the future King of England marrying a commoner. Vestiges of snobbery masquerading as court protocol still haunt the royal corridors. Taunts of ‘doors to manual’ have been reported as being used by some aristocrats and courtiers of Kate, a reference to her mother’s former occupation as a flight attendant.
From what we have seen of her and her family, such underhand, pathetic and childish comments are undoubtedly taken with a sense of humour. They reveal more about the taunter than the recipient.
The Middletons are respectably middle class. Kate’s father, Michael, is the son of a former airline pilot, and himself started as an airline steward for British Airways (where he met his future wife Carole Goldsmith) before rising to the rank of flight dispatcher.
They made their money in the party ware business, and their company, Party Pieces, is as far as anyone can tell, thriving. It even features Royal Wedding items in its stock.
The family home in the small village of Bucklebury in the Royal County of Berkshire (not that far from Windsor Castle) is where Kate has spent most of her formative years. Of course as is perfectly normal for people of her class and income in England, she had a privileged education at the prestigious private boarding school Marlborough College.
Interestingly, a former school friend has described her as ordinary, hard-working, athletic and easy-going. Perhaps it is these down to earth qualities which not only attracted her to Prince William in the first place, but which will help keep both their feet firmly rooted in the real world for the rest of their lives.
What is certain is that their lives will be on display, even more so than Diana’s. How they cope with the ups and downs of life, the paparazzi, the inevitable press intrusions, the whiffs of scandal, will be a big test for their maturity, wisdom and love. While they are still young they have the benefit of their more experienced elders, but in some cases they will be flying alone. Good luck to them.

And the atmosphere around the Christmas luncheon table in Norfolk this year will be one of jollity, though Mike Tindall has  yet to recover his bounce from the Rugby World Cup fiasco in New Zealand, which caught him with a blonde in somewhat dubious circumstances and cost him the England captaincy.

Earlier this week he bowled into Buckingham Palace for the Queen’s pre-Christmas lunch, unfazed by his bad-boy reputation, dressed in an unzipped sweatshirt and an old winter jacket.

‘The trouble is he’s bullet-proof and he knows it,’ says one royal insider.

‘William and Harry adore him. He seems to have got out of this incident scot-free and Zara loves him as much as ever.’

Bullet-proof: Mike Tindall appears ot have got out of the incident that occured (below) in New Zealand scot-free

Sounds like Mike is a lot of fun, the anticipated telling off from Prince Philip will most likely experience a delay. Mike could well be one of those people in life that has a bit of teflon protecting him!

A record 29 royals will experience the Victorian splendour of Sandringham House in Norfolk this weekend as Kate Middleton spends her first Christmas there.

And it will be Prince William’s job to help his new wife navigate the quicksands of protocol that surround the timeless festive ritual.

First, guests are told what time they should arrive at Sandringham today — most junior royals first, most senior last — and are expected to be prompt.

This article is actually a great read.

Prince Philip has been experiencing chest pains and apparently has been through a minimally invasive operation on his heart to remove a blockage.
Just as the Royal Family was gathering for Christmas at Sandringham this occured. A week ago he dined with staff and was said to be in very good spirits. Although his recent tour with the Queen may have been a bit more demanding than might have been visible on the surface. He will continue to be observed, but the procedure is common and a stent has been inserted into the blocked artery that was the cause of the problem.

Harry, William and Kate attend the British Military Heroes awards, each fully decked out in an elegant black dress for the Duchess, and the men in classic evening wear. Gordon Ramsay, David Cameron and his wife, David Beckham, Alesh Dixon from Strictly Come Dancing were among those in attendance.
The event was held at the Imperial War Museum, a fantastic place to visit if you have never been there, and is the fourth time that this great event has been held to honour our military heroes.

Prince Harry tries to help mugged friend, source says

Prince Harry Prince Harry recently returned from the US, where he was finishing his Apache helicopter training

Prince Harry drove to south London to try to find a friend who was mugged while speaking to the royal on his mobile phone, according to a source.

The source told the Press Association the prince searched for Thomas van Straubenzee in Battersea after hearing the alleged robbery on 30 November.

They said the prince, 27, followed his “intuition” to the police station where his friend was giving a statement.

Clarence House confirmed that Harry joined a friend after a robbery.

A spokesman said: “By the time Prince Harry arrived to be with his friend, the police investigation into the incident had already begun. The investigation is ongoing, so we cannot comment further.”

The Press Association’s source said Mr van Straubenzee’s Blackberry mobile phone had been stolen and that Prince Harry had given police a witness statement.

Scotland Yard said police were investigating an allegation of personal robbery on 30 November in Albert Bridge Road.

“A mobile phone was taken during the robbery. This allegation was taken seriously, as are all allegations of robbery, ” a police spokesman said.

“A man was arrested on Thursday, 1 December on suspicion of robbery and bailed to return in January 2012 pending further enquiries. Police from Wandsworth are investigating.

“The property has been recovered. (There were) no reports of any injuries.”

Prince Harry and Mr van Straubenzee – known as Van – first met at Ludgrove Prep School. Mr van Straubenzee accompanied the prince on his first official tour to New Zealand.

Prince Harry is made of the right stuff!

It’s fun is it not, Kate’s outfit continues to be big news, we are not sure the date of this event, but much like Jacqueline Kennedy, the feminine fashion choices easily become the focal point of any national visit. Is Pippa going to boxing day? Will she date Prince Harry? She is not a member of the Royal Family, at least yet!
